Art Miller
Art Miller has combined a 30+ year rail and logistics management career with more than 75 film project credits to become the leading authority on production industry railroad safety. Art was in graduate school in the mid-1980s when introduced to the film business and to AFCI by the late Dancy Jones. His credits include Schlinder’s List, The Fugitive, Under Siege II – In Dark Territory, and Unstoppable, where he devoted over four years to the feature’s extended Development and Prep. Miller currently is the Director of Safety & Operations Standards for Iowa Pacific Holdings and its Permian Basin Railways subsidiary. He is a certified Instructor Engineer and Instructor Conductor and manages the training and certification programs for more than 200 employees on nine railroads. Miller’s production services group, Rail Transportation Management Specialists, has a perfect on-location safety record – 0 injuries and 0 FRA “reportables.” His unique rail operations and safety management philosophy has allowed Directors and Producers to obtain outstanding on-screen production values while concurrently maintaining film and railroad crew safety.

In late 2014, the AFCI and its industry partners will unveil a wide-ranging schedule tailored to filmmakers representing all budgets and genres. Popular topics at last year’s show included the rise of filmmaking in the emerging markets of Brazil, Russia, China and India; candid conversations with the key players—a.k.a. location mavericks—of location filming; navigating documentary filmmaking on foreign soil; exclusive dialogue on independent and big-name movie making with the producers themselves, and much more.
